South Carolina's special teams just got a boost. Max Kelley, a standout punter-kicker from Gallatin, Tennessee, has committed to the Gamecocks. Kelley, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 210 pounds, made his decision after attending a camp at Williams-Brice Stadium.
This commitment marks the first for Joe DeCamillis, South Carolina's new special teams coach. Kelley had a standout performance last season, going 9 of 12 on field goals, with a long of 45 yards. He was also reliable on extra points, making 33 of 38, and averaged an impressive 45 yards per punt.
Kelley’s decision didn’t come lightly. He considered offers from several schools, including Tennessee and Stanford. He also made unofficial visits to prestigious football programs like Vanderbilt, Alabama, Kentucky, and Georgia Tech. Despite these options, Kelley felt South Carolina was the perfect fit for him.
“After visiting many big-name schools, Gamecock football was the best match for my family and I,” Kelley shared. “Their focus on family, faith, and the desire to continue to grow made the decision a no-brainer. And of course, Joe D is the best in the business. And to have a special teams-minded head coach with Coach Beamer, I already feel the support.”
Kelley’s commitment adds to the growing list of recruits for South Carolina’s 2025 class, bringing their total to 13. Here’s a look at the latest commitments for the Gamecocks:
