Kansas City Chiefs Release DL Isaiah Buggs After Offseason Legal Issues

The Kansas City Chiefs are parting ways with defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs following a string of legal troubles this offseason, as reported by NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero on Monday.

Buggs, who recently found himself embroiled in serious allegations, was arrested last week on domestic violence and burglary charges and subsequently booked into Tuscaloosa County Jail. According to Pelissero, Buggs' bond was revoked on Monday, leaving him currently incarcerated.

This isn’t the first time Buggs has faced legal challenges this year. In May, he turned himself in to the same jail over misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. At the time, Buggs' agent strongly denied the allegations, claiming the dogs involved did not belong to Buggs.

A former standout at Alabama, Buggs was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons with the Steelers, then moved to the Detroit Lions for two years before joining the Chiefs' practice squad in January. The Chiefs signed him to a futures contract in February.

Throughout his five-season NFL career, Buggs has appeared in 56 games, recording 89 total tackles, 12 quarterback hits, four tackles for loss, and two sacks. Despite his on-field contributions, his off-field issues have led to his release from the Chiefs as they prepare for the upcoming season.
