In a surprising turn of events, South Carolina’s senior wide receiver, Ahmari Huggins-Bruce, has parted ways with the Gamecocks. Head coach Shane Beamer confirmed the news on Thursday night, shortly after his weekly "Carolina Calls" radio show. When asked if Huggins-Bruce was still with the team, Beamer stated, "He is no longer a member of the team," and added that he would provide more details after speaking with the rest of the squad.
Huggins-Bruce, who joined South Carolina in January after three seasons at Louisville, is reportedly already back in Louisville’s student directory, according to a recent post on X. This unexpected move raises questions, especially as Huggins-Bruce was one of five transfer receivers vying for playing time this season. Despite his potential, he wasn’t among the key players highlighted during the preseason, signaling perhaps a limited role on the field for the upcoming season.
During his time at Louisville, the 5-foot-11 receiver showcased his talent, hauling in 80 receptions for 1,121 yards over three years, including starting all 13 games last season. His departure leaves the Gamecocks with 14 receivers on the roster, including four other transfers: Dalevon Campbell, Jared Brown, Gage Larvadain, and Vandrevius Jacobs, who are all competing for playing time alongside returning players and promising freshmen.
With Huggins-Bruce now out of the picture, the battle for snaps at wide receiver in Columbia intensifies. South Carolina will have to adjust its plans as they prepare for the upcoming season without one of their experienced transfer additions.
